The VIPER12A-E is an integrated offline switched-mode power supply controller combining a current-mode PWM controller with a high-voltage power MOSFET on a single chip. It operates at fixed 60 kHz switching frequency with 9–38 V VDD range and delivers 5–13 W depending on input voltage and package. Designed for battery charger adapters, TV/monitor standby supplies, and auxiliary motor control circuits, it includes overtemperature, overcurrent, and overvoltage protection with auto-restart and burst mode operation at light loads.

Why does this need a breakout?
An 8-pin SOIC with 1.27mm pitch is too fine for breadboards and hand-soldering without a microscope. A breakout board routes these pins to standard 0.1" headers, enabling rapid prototyping and reliable connections for op-amps, transceivers, and small power MOSFETs without requiring reflow equipment.
