Low-power RS-485/RS-422 half-duplex transceiver containing one driver and one receiver. Features reduced slew-rate operation (250kbps max) to minimize EMI and cable reflections, with quarter-unit-load receiver enabling up to 128 devices on bus. Operates from single 5V supply with 120-500µA supply current and includes low-current shutdown mode consuming only 0.1µA.

Why does this need a breakout?
An 8-pin SOIC with 1.27mm pitch is too fine for breadboards and hand-soldering without a microscope. A breakout board routes these pins to standard 0.1" headers, enabling rapid prototyping and reliable connections for op-amps, transceivers, and small power MOSFETs without requiring reflow equipment.
