About This Component

Full-duplex RS-232 transceiver IC with dual drivers and dual receivers in 16-SOIC package. Converts between TTL/CMOS logic levels and RS-232 signal levels for serial communication. Operates from single 3.3V or 5V supply with integrated charge pump for voltage generation. Suitable for PC peripherals, industrial equipment, and legacy serial interfacing applications.

Why does this need a breakout?

SOIC-16W uses 1.27mm pitch and surface-mount construction, making it difficult to hand-solder and incompatible with breadboards. A breakout board converts the 16 pins to through-hole connectors, enabling direct breadboarding and eliminating soldering risk during prototyping of real-time clocks, transceivers, flash memory, and gate-drive optocouplers.
