The AMS1117-5.0 is a fixed-output 1A low-dropout linear regulator delivering 5V with typical dropout of 1.2V at full load. It features ±1.5% output accuracy, integrated current limiting, and thermal shutdown protection. Suitable for battery-powered systems, chargers, portable instruments, and post-regulation in switched-mode supplies.

Why does this need a breakout?
SOT-223 three-pin regulators and transistors are difficult to hand-solder due to tight 1.5mm pitch and heat-sinking requirements. A breakout board brings standard 0.1" header spacing, eliminating soldering challenges and enabling immediate breadboard prototyping without rework or micro-soldering tools.
