The TLV431A is a three-terminal adjustable shunt regulator with 1.24V reference voltage and ±1% initial tolerance. It provides output voltage adjustment from 1.24V to 18V using external divider resistors, with excellent temperature stability (11mV max drift -40°C to +125°C) and supports up to 20mA cathode current. Ideal for precision voltage references, feedback regulation, and zener diode replacement in isolated power supplies and secondary-side control circuits.

Why does this need a breakout?
SOT-23's tiny 0.95mm pin pitch and compact form factor make hand-soldering tedious and prone to bridging errors. A breakout board breaks out the three pins to standard 0.1" spacing for breadboard prototyping, eliminating the need for specialized soldering equipment and enabling fast circuit iteration with transistors, diodes, and small-signal components.
