Half-duplex RS-485/RS-422 transceiver with one driver and one receiver operating from a single 3.3 V supply. Features ±15 kV ESD protection, 12 Mbps guaranteed data rate, -7 to +12 V common-mode input range, and low-power shutdown mode. Ideal for multi-drop industrial communication buses supporting up to 64 transceivers with thermal and short-circuit protection.

Why does this need a breakout?
An 8-pin SOIC with 1.27mm pitch is too fine for breadboards and hand-soldering without a microscope. A breakout board routes these pins to standard 0.1" headers, enabling rapid prototyping and reliable connections for op-amps, transceivers, and small power MOSFETs without requiring reflow equipment.
