The CAT25256 is a 256-kilobit serial EEPROM organized as 32K x 8 bits with SPI interface support up to 20 MHz. It features a 64-byte page write buffer, on-chip ECC, and flexible write protection options (1/4, 1/2, or full array). Rated for 1,000,000 program/erase cycles with 100-year data retention, operating across 1.8V to 5.5V supply range.

Why does this need a breakout?
An 8-pin SOIC with 1.27mm pitch is too fine for breadboards and hand-soldering without a microscope. A breakout board routes these pins to standard 0.1" headers, enabling rapid prototyping and reliable connections for op-amps, transceivers, and small power MOSFETs without requiring reflow equipment.
