Provides output voltages from 1.24V to 18V using external divider resistors, with 20mA maximum cathode current and low temperature drift. Why does this need a breakout?
SOT-23's tiny 0.95mm pin pitch and compact form factor make hand-soldering tedious and prone to bridging errors. A breakout board breaks out the three pins to standard 0.1" spacing for breadboard prototyping, eliminating the need for specialized soldering equipment and enabling fast circuit iteration with transistors, diodes, and small-signal components.
