The TPS2116 is a low-IQ power multiplexer IC that switches between two supply inputs up to 5.5V at 2.5A continuous current with 40mΩ on-resistance. It features priority or manual switchover modes, controlled slew rate, and ultra-low standby current (50nA typical), making it ideal for battery-backed systems, backup power applications, and energy meters. Includes reverse current blocking and thermal shutdown protection.

Why does this need a breakout?
SOT-583-8 packages are extremely difficult to hand-solder due to their 0.5mm pin pitch and small form factor. A breakout board brings these 8 pins to standard 0.1" spacing, making prototyping with power management ICs like synchronous buck converters and power multiplexers feasible without specialized equipment.
