16-bit I2C-bus GPIO expander with programmable inputs/outputs, 5V-tolerant I/Os, and interrupt output. Supports 2.3V to 5.5V operation at up to 400kHz clock frequency with configurable polarity inversion and low power consumption. Ideal for expanding I/O capacity in embedded systems controlling LEDs, sensors, buttons, and peripherals via I2C interface.

Why does this need a breakout?
This 0.5mm pitch QFN-24 package requires a breakout board to prototype effectively — hand soldering the fine-pitch pads is impractical, and the bottom-side exposed pad cannot be accessed on breadboards. A breakout routes the 24 pins to standard headers, enabling rapid testing of multi-channel DACs, ADCs, VCOs, and other analog signal processors without reflow equipment.
