The CAT5171 is a 256-position digital potentiometer with 50kΩ end-to-end resistance controlled via I2C interface. Operating from 2.7V to 5.5V with typical current draw under 2µA, it features power-on midscale preset and an address pin for multiple devices on one bus. Ideal for replacing mechanical potentiometers in sensor adjustment, gain control, and RF biasing applications.

Why does this need a breakout?
The 0.95mm pin pitch and compact footprint make hand-soldering extremely difficult and breadboard incompatible. A breakout board brings all eight pins to standard headers, enabling reliable prototyping of precision analog ICs like DACs, op-amps, and current-sense amplifiers without specialized soldering equipment.
