The AL8861Y-13 is a hysteresis-mode buck LED driver supporting input voltages from 4.5V to 40V with up to 1.5A output current in the SOT89-5 package. It integrates a 40V power switch and high-side current sensing, delivering up to 40W output power with 97% efficiency. Dimming is controlled via VSET pin using DC or PWM signals, with soft-start, LED short protection, and overtemperature protection included.

Why does this need a breakout?
SOT-89-5 packages feature tight 1.27 mm pin pitch and small form factor unsuitable for breadboards or hand soldering without specialized equipment. A breakout board brings standard 0.1 inch headers and larger pads, enabling quick prototyping of LDO regulators and other small outline devices without rework risk or microscope-level soldering.
