The STP16CPS05 is a 16-bit constant current LED sink driver in a 24-TSSOP package designed for LED panel displays. It features adjustable output current (5-100 mA) via external resistor, serial-in/parallel-out shift register architecture, and 30 MHz maximum clock frequency. Operating from 3V to 20V with auto power-saving, it interfaces directly with 3.3V microcontrollers and supports up to 20V output capability for driving multiple LEDs in series.

Why does this need a breakout?
Hand-soldering 0.65mm pitch traces is difficult without proper equipment; a breakout board with standard 0.1in header spacing lets you breadboard-prototype and test these compact devices easily. Commonly used for I2C/SMBus I/O expanders and mixed-signal microcontrollers, this breakout eliminates fine-pitch soldering and allows rapid iteration during development.
